Default Led my first climb!!

I led my first sport route on the weekend!! It was only a 15m grade 15 (5.9 for the US climbers), but i'm still pretty happy with myself. I had an experimental fall half way up just to see what it was like, and man, actually free falling for a few metres before being pulled up makes peeling off the wall a much more interesting (and scary) endeavour.

I'm going to attempt leading some longer routes this weekend.

I'm a happy happy boy.

Nah man, i have no education or experience with trad climbing, I've only just come from the world of top-roping. But, I have lined up a new climbing partner who does nothing but trad climbing, so no doubt he'll teach me some things.

Hmmm, lets see... If you lead a climb you're the first one up it, you're the one that finds out just how hard it is, you're the one that falls the furthest, you're the one that sets up all the anchors and protection, and you're the one that gets all the bragging rights.

Well, i did my lead/multipitch course on the weekend, it was freakin great!! Multipitch climbing is bloody excellent, it's kinda freaky though being a long way off the ground. It certainly gets the adrenaline pumping.

I took a few decent whips while leading, the first couple scared the crap outta me, but then they sorta became fun. The mental game is way different when leading, there is a difference of 6 grades (au grading system) between what i can top rope compared to what i can lead...stupid brain.

...my days of top-roping are over.
