Hey guys! I'm moving to Arizona in a week and I'm looking to start hiking

Basically I know I need to get some good boots, but that's about all I know haha!

I read the previous post by piknic about gear as well.

Does anyone know any good hikes in Arizona...keep in mind I'm just starting out! Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know of any particular trails... but Sedona and Flagstaff are drop dead gorgeous!! I went horse back riding in Ft Huachuca (south of AZ) and I felt like I was in a Western movie... everywhere u go in AZ is just beautiful.

I second the comment about Sedona, its awesome. I know there is a place nearby there where you can go rock-sliding in the river. My mother did this in the 70's when she drove cross-country with her friends and then my family did it again in the 90's on a family vacation to the Grand Canyon. I can find the name and city for you if you want. Its really awesome. I told a co-worker about it a few months ago and her and her family all did it and loved it.

i don't know any good hiking in arizona, but hit up a bookstore. they write books about everything. that's how i'm discovering all the different hikes that i am doing here in Washington. as for gear, i'd say that good boots are about it for just day hikes. make sure to have about 100oz of water to hike with (i use a camelbak water bladder), a daypack and a raincoat (hypothermia can happen at any temperature and weather changes quickly on mountains).

have fun, and post about your hikes. i'd totally be interested in hearing about them as well as the rest of the hiking TP peeps i'm sure.:D
