As long as the "Great White Wall" isn't named because it is home to a ton of Great White Sharks...

Sharks scare the hell out of me.

Haha not great white sharks, at least I hope there aren't any. Got the name from the heaps of white coral there that form some sort of wall. It's gonna be sick!!!

Sounds fantastic!! Post a report after your trip, there are a handful of us diving 'Punks around here and we would love to hear your reports. We should have a Tpunk dive meetup one of these days. Maybe Truk Lagoon.......

when we went to mexico we did the resort thing omi mentioned, and it was amazing. we were only there for a week, so couldn't get certified without losing half our trip.

it was scary at first, but that was mostly because my instructor misjudged my weight and put too many weights on my belt, so i kept sinking to the bottom, freaking out cause i was hitting fragile ocean... stuff :P

once he figured out i was strugglin' he took off some weights (like pshh... three of them) and it was smooth sailing. it was one of the best experiences ive ever had

^Sounds like you had a bad instructor. They are supposed to put you through a weight check before you get all your gear on so that exact thing doesn't happen. Being over weighted is one of the more dangerous things in SCUBA diving becuase you need to be able to get to the surface if you have a problem. This is particularly true in a resort course where they throw you out there with minimal training. Anyway...end rant. Glad you enjoyed it!!

Bumpage for this thread and the few scuba tpunks out there...

Should I head to the Blue Hole in Belize while I'm in Central America? Worth it? Should I wait till I have more experience? Tis expensive, but it seems like one of those things that should be done.

And when is this scuba meetup happening?

What kind of class are you taking that lasts a month?

Swing by south when you're done.

Anyway I think the Blue Hole will have to wait for me...too expensive, and I'd like to have my Advanced and more experience under my weight belt before I attempt such a deep dive.

It is at my university. It is four days of classroom study and four practice dives in the pool. Then on two weekends we go out to do real dives. It could be done in a week.

I saw that flights to Costa Rica from Tampa are only 200 bucks so who knows? That might be possible!

Okay, so only weekends...I was wondering why it took so long because I did my open water in 3 days.

Anyway flights from Miami to Honduras (san pedro sula) were about 160 last time I checked. Cheapest diving ever, you should just have flown there and done your course for 200 bucks.

I am a PADI certified rescue diver. I am going to go for my Divemaster probably here in a few months. Havnt done ALOT of diving, enough to start my divemaster. Lots of diving in Utah, and a week long trip to Roatan (Honduras). Own all of my own gear.

Sad part is, now all I want to spend my money on is another looong backpacking trip. 1 week long diving trip is about 1/2 of the money it would take to back pack for 1.5 months. So, short nice coushy vacation, or loooong not so coushy but fun as hell trip...hmm....
