Shirts

Hey guys,
I'm leaving for my 3 month trip to Europe in about a week and me, being my normal self, am freaking out over stupid details. The only thing I have unresolved is what types of shirts to take. Lots of travel sites I read suggest taking blends of materials that dry quickly (i.e. NOT cotton). From experience do people recommend this or in your opinion are light cotton shirts just as good? I plan on doing my own laundry in sinks but may decide to use a laundromat occassionally. And one last thing, for going clubbing is it recommended to just have a polo type shirt or is a button up preferable?

Those blends are good...but man do they start to stink, and once they do, good luck getting it out. Personally, I brought a few of both. If I knew I was gonna be getting my sweat on, I wore the fast-dry, wicking-type shirt. If it was a social situation, I left the stank rag in my bag (yeah, it rhymed. I'm THAT cool) and wore the cotton.

I didn't do much clubbing, but from what I did see, there are clubs of every level over there: Some you can walk into in a tshirt and jeans, others you need leather dress shoes and designer clothes. Depends on what you're looking for. If you're on a budget, you probably won't need anything super fancy, because the kind of places that require that are probably the same ones that charge ten euros for a drink.

They recommend blends because they "wick" moisture away from your body. Cotton absorbs sweet and so the shirt stays damp.

The thing I have found though is that those shirts do start smelling after a day or so of use. I stopped using them except when im climbing or biking. I travel with cotton.

I don't do a lot of hiking so I can't say for really strenuous activity, but we take cotton - light cotton like seersucker dries quickly - and it works for us. Prints don't look dirty as quickly, and don't show wrinkles as much.

Take a few polo type shirts. They are good for going out sightseeing for a day or going out at night. Better to have more than one.

Don't worry too much about it. We just brought shirts (I had a couple that were a blend [atheletic] and a couple regular cotton, and honestly, even in the super heat, hiking around hills, etc., was never bothered more or less by either fabric. The thinner the cotton, the quicker it would dry, so you may want to consider some of those cheapy undershirts. Yes, a polo or button up is recomended for clubbing as some places have dress codes.
