Hey guys,

I was just about to buy the 2003 Dana Design Far Flung, on sale at Amazon when I realized that it might be too big. It's 3800 cu, which didn't seem so bad when I kept hearing so many ppl getting the Ultimate Explorer and other large travel bags, but when I converted it to liters it was around 62L!

I heard people recommending taking only a 40-50L bag to Europe, but also many people recommending Dana Design. My concern is that I'm only 5'2" with a small frame. Should I go ahead and buy the Far Flung or get a smaller pack?

ANY ADVICE WOULD DO! I'm leaving in about 2.5 weeks.

As far as I'm concerned there virtually is no difference in the amount of clothes you take when going for 3 weeks or 6 weeks (maybe take a few more pairs of undies). A 50L pack should be enough (with enough room for a few souvenirs) as long as you don't overpack to begin with. The biggest difference should be in the amount of money you take. If you really do need something you didn't bring with you then you can always buy it in Europe.

A lot of it depends on you. Some people get by with less clothes and accessories, others need a few more things to be happy. If you buy a bigger pack, but do not end up filling it all the way, there is still not a lot of extra weight from a smaller pack - it's the clothes that add weight. Also, you would have more room for souvenirs. If you are someone who can be a mercenary when it comes to packing, then go with a smaller one, but if there is doubt in your mind, get a bigger one and just try not to fill it up.

I have a 35 liter pack and it is working great for the 4 week trip. I am actually sending clothes back. I packed for one week. Every week I wash clothes. A 50 liter pack wouldn't be bad eithe but I prfer the panel loader instead of the top loaders and those usually are only in smaller sizes.

YES! Its a great pack. I don't have that one, but I helped our lovely Tecia here on tpunk get that one. Tecia is also about 5'2 or so, so you should be fine. It is a really good pack. Extremely versitile. I have a Dana as well, and love it!
