I've been looking at the Gear page with all the recommended brands (Gregory, Eagle Creek) for backpacking. I'm going to Europe for 5 weeks so I need something sturdy and will last long, but all the backpacks seem to be HUGE. I'm only 5'2" and really petite so what bag would be appropriate. All the Ebay listings for the Gregory/Eagle Creek bags have previous owners who were 5'8" or taller, and it's hard to guess what is appropriate with the description on eBags.com.

Please help!

Hey! I'm only 5'2 as well, so I feel your pain. If possible can you get to a sporting goods store and try on some different things? That'll give you a feel for what brands may and may not work for you, then you can do your "real" shopping online.

if you find a bag or any other item at a sporting good store and it's only a little bit more than what you can get it online (20-30$ on a bag) I recommend buying it from the store. We need to support these stores otherwise they won't be here for us to "go try something on" but that's just my two cents.

^ thank you, Adam, you saved me from editing my post. LOL-- yes, I absolutely prefer to buy things in a brick & mortar store if they're only marginally more expensive. I hate paying for and waiting for shipping anyway.

I know what you mean, I have my new pack coming in the mail since my last one got mangled. I bought it online and it is another week till it gets here. I mean honestly I dont need it for anything in the meantime but there is that excitment you get when you buy your gear and are able to bring it home to play with. If it was only a small difference in a local store here and online I would have gone with the local, but we were talking like $175 bucks.
