Size Matters

Okay guys, I'm headed to OZ/NZ in about 2 months and thought I should start researching a pack to buy. I don't know anything!!! I'm going for about 4-6 months, am 5'4 and 125 lbs. I know you probably need a toso measure or something in there too but i don't know it, i'm short waisted though. What size pack would be right for me? thanks

Really, though, I'd suggest finding a good outdoors store that has a wide selection to check out some packs first hand. Try them on, see them up close, pricing, etc.

I shopped Eastern Mountain Sports, REI, and Hudson Trail Outfitters, checked out the bags, picked the brains a little there, then bought mine. My pack retails for $200, and the best online I could find was around $150. Searched Ebay and nailed it brand new for less than $120 shipped, IIRC.

BTW, mine's an Eagle Creek Transcontinental Journey.

For that matter, sift thru some of the older threads here, theres a ton of info on which pack, etc etc there. I would say that the TCJ that I have is a bit big for someone your size (I'm 6ft/185lbs)...

I recently purchased the Dana Design Swift Traveller and love it. I am also about the same height as you, 5'3 actually. The pack itself is a good fit (I got size small) but it may be a little too much volume for a trip of only two months. Before I settled on the Swift Traveller, I bought the Dana Design Far Flung (online so I didn't try it on before I bought it) and felt like it was just too small for a trip that would be lasting for a year. But for your trip, it will probably be sufficient. I got it at REI Outlet for about $150 plus tax and the Swift Traveller for $170.
