It was recomended to me to bring a super light sleeping bag rather than a sleep sheet. Friends that travelled last yeat said it was great. Thoughts??

well, 2 weeks till i head off, and im still no closer to finding the answer to this one...
I have bought both, but even my "superlite" hiker sleeping bag that can be sqashed down to a coconut is still going to take up a great deal of space. Almost my entire bottom compartment to be exact...
So, yeah, whilst it would be good, im just not sure. Thinking of bringing it, leaving it in london for the three months that im in europe...

A sleeping bag will be handy if you need to sleep somewhere other than a hostel, like on the floor in someone's house or outside. I'm going to bring an old one just to have in case I need it. I've heard conflicting reports about whether you can use them in hostels though.

sleep sheet. unless you PLAN on staying in campgrounds.
but, since some of you are planning to sleep in the park in spain - your s.b. will come in handy, som.
who knows - if you think you might go rambo on your trip, bring a sleeping bag.
basically - i have no sound advice, ahah!
this is probably the most largely debated backpacker topic...

Hehe, my avatar is actually the famed Monkey Man of India that ran amoke terrorizing old ladys and injuring children a few years ago. My avatar was one of the mug shots the police used to attempt capture.

So just an addition to the sleeping sheet question:
Do you really need a sleeping sheet if you aren't worried about money?? I would rather rent sheets from the hostel then lug around my own.
Do most hostels offer the option to rent linen?
Any answers?

I brought a sleep sheet with me. Even though it rolled up to be fairly small it still took up a good bit of room in my pack. And then, after the FIRST night that I needed to use it (about halfway through my five-week trip) I left it in the hostel. I was pretty pissed off-- not because I had lost the sleep sheet, but because I had left it at THAT particular hostel, which I hated. Oh well. It ended up giving me more room and less weight in my pack and I didn't need it at all for the rest of my trip!
