Hi all... I'm new here, and am in the midst of planning a nine-month European adventure... working for 6, travelling for 3...

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has used a Messenger-style bag for a day pack rather than a regular old backpack... you know, like a one strap, sling over the shoulder bag that rests at your hip?

The one I has clips to close it, and it's durable (Roots)

I guess the pros of it is that it is more in your sight than a backpack would be, and if you didn;t want to tuck it away in your actual backpack, it could still rest at your side...

Any opinions, comments etc?

Yeah, i was going to get one of those bags, at least by your side you have some kinda eye on it at most times. But, the daypack that comes with my backpack will do the job this time.

My only concern with the side pack is it has clips to close it. There's no security with that but I guess it depends with what you're keeping in it.

Zippers have a HUGE advantage b/c you can slip a lock thru the hole at the end of the zipper. I can see someone quickly un-clipping your bag if you aren't paying attention.

Thats just my O-pinion
