Hey all!
Less than two months from my month long trip to Europe and i'm getting anxious to start packing. I've read through all of the backpack threads and it seems like the Eagle Creek Global 65L Expandable should meet my needs. I will try on in the store first but I wanted to solicit the experts on this as well.. Any opinions? Thanks! Joe |
Looks like a good pack, but have you shopped around? the cost looks a bit high??? 180.00$ US I just think maybe there might be a better deal out there for ya,. look around..but if this is all thats available then it looks like like a gfood go...IMO :stoked:

Hello everyone. I have a question about backpacks, but didn't want to start a new thread since there seem to be a lot of them. Can someone give me their opinion on this backpack:
http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...ductId=32979618 It doesn't have a detachable daypack, rather just a waistpack which I probably won't wear because I dislike them. However, it's cheap enough where I would just buy a daypack separately. There is also a slightly larger backpack here: http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...ductId=32979616 However, that one seems like it might be a bit big at 5,500 cubic inches. I'm not really a small guy (about 6'1") but I'm only travelling for 3 weeks so I'm not sure if I should go with the larger or the smaller bag, or even this backpack at all. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Greg |
WELCOME TO THE BOARDS BOSHWOK!!!!
Okay, well those packs I'm sure will be fine, but here are some suggestions. I have been on the backpack hunt myself for the last couple of months, and I finally bought mine. Its from MEC (I live in Canada) and its called the Walkabout: http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail....D=1075915159722 This has all the features that I could want, it really depends on what YOU are looking for. This pack unzips like a suitcase. Those packs that you linked to look like the top loading kind, which is fine, but can be a really pain if you have to be digging around to find something. The packs that you can zip open the whole front really eases things, and you can get at everything you need easily. The zip-off daypack is a feature that you have to decide on for yourself. I opted for it, it is a really useful feature I'm sure. It really depends on how big your pack is to start. If you are only going for three weeks, then you could probably get away with having a smaller pack that you just carry everything around in it with you. Another interesting and useful feature is a cover to zip over all the straps and what not. That MEC pack I bought is pretty neat because this whole flap zips over the entire back to hide all the shoulder and waist straps so they don't get caught and wrecked when being loaded onto the airplane etc. Okay, well there are a few suggestions....it is definitely worth shopping around and TRYING THEM ON. You don't want to buy a pack over the internet only to realize that it is uncomfortable...that could make for a long trip!!! Happy hunting. |
Well i finally got my pack
http://www.oneplanet.com.au/fs-packs.htm (tom thumb 3) It has everything i want and a lifetime gaurantee. It was a bit pricy, but it is chiropractically approved, and very comfy and as i do have back problems I figured it was worth spending an extra $100 if it means not spending 6 months in pain. Now just 2 weeks to go till i can try it out propper. :stoked: Just need to get the water proof boots now. *i hate shoe shopping* |
That reminds me of another thread i'm sure i've seen here -
People dont need to put a flag or sticker on their packs - you can tell where they come from by what brand they wear :) Well. Perhaps if you REALLY like luggage, and you've been travelling for a long time :P Wyzfen |
I'll put in a vote for Gregory packs. Try www.gregorypacks.com. They have all different sizes/models, but all of excellent quality. I've use mine for 3 trips to Europe, and tons of hiking/climbing here in the Rockies in Colorado. It's never ripped or lost a stitch in all the abuse I've put it through, including probably the worst was getting caught in a rockslide climbing a 14k peak. I used the pack as protection from the pounding rocks. I honestly think my Gregory pack will outlast me!
Also, remember that if you like to stitch patches from the countries you visit (like me), a good pack makes it worth the effort. |
I've heard of packs making good pillows and seats but never of falling rock protectors.
good to see that you came out allright :kisscheek: |
damn fireguy! thats a good story, thats practically Gregory pack advertisement material!!!
