Where are you? Any outdoor store would have a decent selection, I'd imagine there are a few within reach of wherever you are...

I do not know what you mean by "cheap", and further, what materials you are looking for to put "cheap" into perspective. Anyhow, if you are looking for something beyond a yellow rubber one, this is a great thread on the topic:

If you want really cheap, you could buy a poncho!!

...or a garbage bag... Hey, I've done it.

if you just want a water proof layer, go with either a poncho - water proof, covers your pack, but not great in wind - or pod pants/coats - these are basically small, compact jackets/over trouser, and keep water off, you just whip them out when it starts to rain, there not breathable, so will get quite a bit of condensation on the inside, after some time, but thats not really a biggy.

what kind of things will you be doing? are you on the hill? or just wont somthing in your pack for when it rains?

i don't know what you mean by "cheap", and i realize $70 isn't spare change, but:

llbean's "trail model rain jacket" is supposed to be a great rain jacket. my father continually raves about it and loves to declare that it is the single most practical article of clothing he's ever bought. plus, it comes in super-cool colors and the quality must be great (my dad has had his for years)!

For my Europe trip, I went ahead and spent $70 on a trench coat from Magellan's. It was by far the best thing I brought. Aside from it's wonderful protection from rain, it also served as my most used form of warmth. I went mainly for the months of October and November, so it was a bit colder than the normal Summer trip there, but rarely would I have to don my sweatshirt.

As an aside, it looks damn good and I felt like Humphrey Bogart. With a mohawk.

P.S. - Magellan's doesn't seem to make them anymore, only a waist-length raincoat for double the price. Look for one though. It'd be well worth it.
