Money of course, debit cards, credit cards?

Do you put your passport in their, if not where do you keep it.

Is your drivers license enough for ID when not crossing borders?

Do you keep the photo copy of your passport in the belt?

What about plane tickets and train passes?

I keep my passport in a ziplock in my belt and with me at all times. I also keep train/plain,etc... ticks in a ziplock in the belt. I keep 1 credit card and 1 debit card in my belt and a 2nd set locked in my pack. Other than that, I keep the keys to the locks on my pack attached to a safety pin, and money in my belt.

ditto. Most backpacks have hidden compartments to hide your passport. As for money, keep it in a bank, if your card gets lost or stolen you can easily cancel it and get a new card sent to you

Basically, everything you CAN'T afford to lose! Passport, visas, copies of insurances, prescription, etc. As per money, you'll go crazy if you keep everything in there, so my suggestion is to have an emergency amount and/or one of your cards (either credit or debit).

Indeed, losing a card isn't such a big deal if you're travelling in Western Europe or North America, but elsewhere (where are you heading?) it might be a huge problem. I lost my wallet in the countryside of Laos... I was going to a place where there were no electricity or service whatsoever... Before leaving "civilisation", I was able to find a hotel with internet and I asked my parents to get a new credit card and arrange with the canadian embassy in Vietnam to ship it there (it was my next destination)... I fortunately had $100 of emergency money in my money belt, and got to the very last cent (I mean the very very last cent) before getting the new card, 10 days later.

And anyway, even in W.E. or N.A., you'll still need money to survive for a few days !

By the way, if you travel for a long time, you'll almost forget you're wearing it. I bathed in a river wearing it !

I'm with Esther on this one.

I carry two different belts with me on travelling. One is an under-the-shirt type, where I keep the majority of my money, credit/debit card, passport, driver's license, student ID (when I had one), etc.

I then also carry a real belt with a zipped compartment with $100 backup cash and a photocopy of my license and passport folded in.

My actual wallet has very little in it, usually about $20-30 cash and a debit card that can easily be cancelled.

Thing is, I've seen first hand from other travelers what can happen when one has their ID, cash, etc in their backpack and it gets stolen. With my luck, it'd happen to me! Let's face it, as a traveler in a foreign country you may be the target for theft more than you expect. It doesn't hurt to take a precaution or two.

Me either, I just shove everything into my bag (my hand bag, not my backpack), hope for the best, and forget about it.

It's probably not a very good attitude to have really. But if there's a locker in the hostel, or a safe, I always take advantage of that. Other than that, I just keep my fingers crossed.

I know, I'll regret it when I'm mugged.
