When doing a search for the right backpack, don't forget to check the zippers!

Make sure that the zippers have holes in them, big enough so that you can put a small combination lock through the holes to lock your zippers together. It's a much needed security measure that you should take to prevent anyone from easily going through your backpack B)

and on that note, this is not a time to buy a dollar store lock, spend the little bit extra and get something half decent

Yes, you'd think the pack industry would use an industry standard and make all their zipper holes big enough to fit most small lock stems thru...but you'd be surprised.

ok, I bought 6 sm key locks (they came in sets of 3 so there is a key per 3 to unlock them) and a sm combination lock which i plan to put on my valuables along w/ another key lock (im slightly paranoid).....do u guys think this is ok? are the key locks fine?

space virgin 03-26-2005 11:16 PM

Sure, just don't lose the keys!! I like combo locks for that reason alone.

kingcrazylegs 03-26-2005 11:41 PM

^what sucks is when the internal gears lock up and the combination won't unlock and you are standing stairing at the customs dude swearing that the combination won't work, and standing next to him is a militia dude with an m-16....and on top of that I was sweating out of every pour in my body....yea, this happened when I arrived in Belize...

I'd still go with the combination lock over a key lock though

heyo

masterlock makes a combination lock specifically designed for backpack zippers...

i used 2 of them in brasil and they never let me down.

Masterlock Backpack Padlocks

I had the top one in duplicate

anyway I am a locksmith and this is the only plug for masterlock you will ever hear from me. I despise just about every other lock they make for how crappy they are.

simply_angelic 03-27-2005 04:53 AM

You're a locksmith Jake? Wow, I learn something new about you every time......btw, do you know how to pick locks Jake? (being a locksmith and all...) because if u can, which ones are the easiest to pick (from zipper locks) that I should probably avoid?

TheJake 03-27-2005 07:47 AM

thieves don't pick locks. they break em.

yes i can pick locks. including cars

simply_angelic 03-27-2005 08:41 AM

and....http://www.hpionline.com/Lock_Images...humb/3115D.jpg
will be able to withstand?

:crap:

omisan 03-28-2005 01:43 AM

I'm with Jake on that one - Master's the only brand of padlock I've ever bought since having 2 locks of lesser brands broken ages ago. No one's ever f'ed with my Masters.

butterj 03-28-2005 10:28 AM

Just remember people don't rely on locks as i have seen bags slashed open, the harder it looks to get in the more valuable they assume the stuff in side is. if you only have clothes it is highly unlikely anyone will nick them even if they open your bag. I've seen bags been nicked and often they leave them round the corner with everything still in because there was nothing valuable inside. having said all of that i can understand why people do use them but i never use them on any occasion, i just try not to take stuff worth nicking.
