Melbourne is the best city in Australia in my (somewhat biased) opinion. However I would recommend Queensland (Surfers, Broadbeach etc.) for the partying, touristy atmosphere. Also you don't need a wetsuit to swimming!

adelaide has nothing to do.
i lived there for over 20 years and couldn't wait to leave. true there are some really cool places about an hour/ 2 hrs drive away.

I've lived here my whole life too and sometimes i wonder that complain there is nothing to do are deadheads who can't think for themselves. You'll be surprised if you head into the city and walk around a little.

Dubbo in NSW is great on a saturday night. Met tons of friendly locals who showed us around and took out partying, damb those country girls are horny.

Dubbo!! I didn't think foreigners ventured that far west! That's awsome that you're getting off the coast and actually checking out the country. Dubbo is a classic country town about 2 hrs away from where i live. Its claim to fame is its massive zoo. A little known fact about the place is that it is ranked number 1 for violent crimes per person every year in NSW!! The town i live in came third last year.

....and yes, country girls are horny. If you really wanna meet some girls you should go to a B&S (bachelors and spinsters) ball. They are massive parties in paddocks in the middle of nowhere. They usually cost about $100 to get in but that includes all the food and alcohol you can stomach until you leave the next day, a few bands, and various car shows. They can get pretty wild with fights and general bogan behavior, but if you've got thick skin and can handle that sort of thing then they are a lot of fun.

The biggest Hole in Australia.

Hmm I suggest Port Hedland, also known as Shit headland. It's in Western australia. We were told not to go to the bar next to our hostel because it was one of the worst ones in Australia. So of course we went..It was hilarious. They were actually pretty welcoming since they never get backpackers in there. The bar doesn't have windows since there are always bar fights and they get broken anyways. The hostel we stayed at actually had barbed wire surrounding it. Talk about feeling like you were staying in a jail.

Where to Next? Iceland!
