Unhappy

Hi Folks,

I'm in the process of booking a hostel in Sydney (for January 04) and was wondering if you guys had any recommendations ?

I notice that some hostels include breakfast in their price, and others do not (this could mean c.$70AUD saved per week, right ?)

WakeUp! Sydney Central looks very nice, but unfortunetly doesn't include breakfast

I'm hoping to get a hostel that is as good as WakeUp! but includes brekkie in the price.
Am I hoping for too much ?

Cheers,
IrishDude.

Wake Up, looks good! But don't let the lack of free donut and a cup of coffee sway you from booking a room at a fine hostel . I've heard good things about this hostel, plus they link to Travelpunk.com Wake Up!

Here's a list of all the other hostels in Sydney, with availabilty, on that day(see their respective pictures)- Sydney Hostels

Check out Surfside on list. There was a couple of recommendations on that hostel in the "Hostels Recommended" section.

Save money by going to the grocery store and buying bread and ham/cheese/turkey, fruit, beverages, snacks, whatever...it'll be cheaper on the budget and filling.

Hope it helps

Using the link TP gave ya works out well, you have your room for sure when you get there, and if something does not go well at the hostel and you have a complaint, you can go through there customer service which I have found is not bad at all.

Don't forget to check the Hostel Penalty Box

Just putting in my 2 cents. I've also heard good things about Wake up. Theres a good website called BUG australia. Google it. basically it gives reviews on hostels. Fellow backpackers post their comments on cleanliness, security, fun factor etc...They also have BUG europe which helped me pick out a few hostels.

hey irishdude, i stayed in wakeup sydney for my first few days in sydney. paid about $28 aus. bit pricier than the other hostels, but the place was super clean and conveniently located right next to the train station! good location for the first few days of your stay in syd~ the cheapest and best place i stayed in sydney was at manly beachside backpackers in manly beach, which is about 20-25 min away by ferry. i paid about $15 US a night and the grocery store was just a 2 min walk away and i bought bread and cheese and fruit practically every day.

Thanks for the heads up folks !

katdawg,
It was a previous post by you that got me thinking about WakeUp! - it seems like an ideal hostel for the first few days.
I've had a look at your photo gallery - some very nice pics - looks like you had a 'ball' in Oz

Thanks again for your feedback.

Cheers and Merry Christmas,
IrishDude.

I also heard good stuff about Wake Up! If not there, then next door at the Sydney YHA. Both are super. Don't stay at Sydney Backpackers. Over crowded, no TP in the bathrooms, and the place is falling apart.

If you get a chance go over to Manly. When there stay at Boardrider. The same price as Wake Up!, but clean and very close to the beach!

I stayed at Wakeup for the duration of the rugby world cup in 2003 - had a ball mate!! met soooo many people, and its clean, staff are great and its got everything you need!! and a good bar within crawling distance of your room!!lol

The YHA down the road is much more pricey, and if there is one hostel to stay away from its boomerang backpackers - the place is a hole mate!!

i'll deffo go back to wakeup when i return to Oz later this year
