Default New Zealand- Working Holiday

Hi guys. Just been in NZ for 4 weeks and really fell in love with the south island. Hoping to get a working holiday visa and return within the next 6 months or so. Is there anyone else out there thinking of doing the same?? :D

Hey Jen! Yup I'm going to NZ in December to do my working holiday! I already was accepted for it! I went to NZ two years ago and I fell in love with it so that's why i'm going back. :D

So what are your plans, if you dont mind me asking? Have you saved a shit load of money? Its just going to be so different from backpacking Im not really sure where to start. Plus I want to go to the south island and dont know what opportunities are there.

Shitload of money? I will def not have that! I plan on going to South East Asia in September for three months so a lot of my money will be blown on that! I will prob arrive in NZ very broke but thats what I have a working visa for! For city living I loved Wellington...For smaller towns I want to try living in the Nelson/Picton area, also Queenstown..Or the Bay of Islands (which I never went to). I plan on cleaning lots of hostels so I don't have to pay for accomodation. Also I might get into the whole wwoofing thing.

It will def be a lot more settling as opposed to travelling, but I'm just glad that I have the opportunity to have a working visa so I can see more of that beautiful country. Keep me posted on your plans.

yeah, i'm heading over pretty soon. I have my visa already, just trying to manage my flight. flying into sydney first to do the east coast of oz and visit friends for a few weeks, then 4 months or so in new zealand. gotta come home in sept for my bro's wedding. I am planning on taking my snowboard and hopefully setting up somewhere around queenstown or christchurch for the ski season in july and august. don't know if i'm gonna actually get a real job or not, my time is sorta limited because of the wedding. I found alot of really interesting opportunities on helpx.net. we'll see how that works.

Heya!
umm a few general ideas:

Farm work, woof or not
Often seasonal picking pays quite well in the nelson areas etc.
Ski jobs or just work in queenstown in general over the season but would be an expensive place to live.
I think finding work in and around picton might be difficult

sorry probably more help in the north island!

sum one mentioned the luved wellington if ya stuck for work when ya get here try 'the temp centre' average pay, average jobs (hospo mainly) but can't be beaten in terms of flexibility.

let me know if i can help at all!

that's what i'm planning on doing in about....2 years. i just got back from a month in nz in may and fell in love w the country as well.

i spent most of my time in the s.island (all over) and spent a few days in wellington. never made it up to auckland except to fly home (to LA). i hear it's s---t anyway.

my plan is to get a company sponsorship; but get over there on the working holiday visa. i'm also looking for more of a perm move--settling rather than traveling. i plan on working there at least a year. maybe longer. im spending the next few years getting more job exerience and saving the $.

ideally i'd like to work in oz (theres just much more along the lines of my job) and travel nz while in that region, BUT as a US citizen that is proving to be very, very difficult.

just applyed for my work visa. if it works out il fly down in june for a few good months in wanaka and get a job right away at one of the ski hills. then once the seasons over find a place to learn to surf short board (ideas anyone??). ive been surfing quite a few times but only long boarding. my travel stratagy is to find a job and do trips all around the area on my time off till i have seen and done everything i wanted to do. i find i get i bit more of a local experience when im working somewhere (this will be my second holiday visa).
