Default Tahiti!

I think this is in the right place, i'm embarrassed to admit i had to think for awhile about where tahiti fits in with the world. anyway when my mum and I are going to New York in January, we are stopping in Tahiti for a night. i think it's a long enough stop over to actually do some stuff and look around, because mum wants me to find a hotel for us to stay in. the main problem is that in tahiti it seems to be either a luxurious expensive resort or a dingy little shack. has anyone been to tahiti? we need somewhere pretty close to the airport I guess. also what can we do in a short time there?

HAHAHA, I just got back from Tahiti 3 days ago. Def. didn't think my knowledge would be that useful on tpunk. hmm, a place to stay might be difficult for me to say because I stayed in a hostel there. I know there's an affordable hotel close to the airport called Tahiti Airport Lodge, but I'm not sure how nice it is. How long will you actually have to do stuff there? The island of Tahiti is not actually the island paradise you dream of. Its a crowded, traffic filled (at least the side you will see) island that lacks beaches and swimming opportunities. Papeete has a pretty cool market I guess that is one of the major tourist activities. hmm, i didn't really spend much time in Papeete doing things. I def. didn't go to Fr. Poly. to be in a place like Papeete. If you have the time, I would recommend hopping on the ferry to Moorea. Its only about 30min away by high-speed ferry and its gorgeous. Let me know how long you will have and when you're going also. Oh, and the wet season will be setting in shortly I believe.
