Going to oz and nz between May to October
Hello chaps,
Just wondering if you could help me out?! I was initially planning on doing 6 months in Oz and NZ from Jan to June, but due to certain circumstances i now have to go between May and October and i as just wondering whether i'll still get the same kind of experience as i would if i was going from say Dec through till like May?? I've heard May to Oct is sortof out of season.
I'm prob just being daft, but it's my first time out there and i don't know if it'd be as busy or if the weather would a little worse. Any help chaps?? thanks v. much

Hey there and welcome to the boards!
I can't speak for aussie but i'm sure some of my neighbouring tpunks will be on board soon to answer that part for you...
But for NZ the weather will proberly not be too bad for May, June and then say September, October. Our seasons have been rather mucked up the last few years and june -aug is meant to be winter however it has gotten quite cold the last week, but not that much rain which is promising.
Then again it all depends what part of nz you go to, i always know to take a jacket with me when i go to wellington, cas its just about always cold or windy! whereas places like hawkes bay are generally warmer than the rest of the country.
Anywho if you have anything else to ask fire away, hopefully i was of some help!

places like canberra or melbourne would be cold, but here in sydney its only just started to get cold these last few weeks - i don't think its very cold at all compared to canberra, where I used to live! and september october it usually starts to warm up. cities like sydney are busy all year round, and if you wanted work, as mooloo said the ski resorts are very busy this time of year.

I was in NZ in October and the weather was really varied, even being warm and sunny one day, and rainy the next in the same town. But we had a lot of nice days though.
Also, October wasn't too busy, but it wasn't exactly dead either. I did one of the backpacker bus things (magic bus) and found that the bus was always busy, and on occasion, completely full.

My australia trip was in August and I got by with jeans, tshirt and a light jacket with no problems (in Sydney). I thought winter was a great time to visit! I'm not much a a beach bum though, you probably don't want to do surfing or the like at that time of year.
I bet its cold down in Taz though....
Then if you get farther north it warms up nicely, you can sunbathe and the sun is toasty. The water though is still a bit on the cool side although you could still swim.

What exactly are you guys calling cold because i'm from the north of england and i'd call 15C reasonably warm!! I think the consensus is that it's not going to be as busy as the rest of the year, but not so much that it'll make a major difference. great. cheers guys
(on a side note i graduated from uni today whoop)

well just to give you an idea, the last few weeks have been a few sunny days reaching a high of around 15-20 degrees, alternating with a few stormy days where its really not too cold but very rainy and windy. so basically its not freezing in winter its just annoyingly unpredictable. type 'pasha bulker' into google news to get an idea of what our last big storm did.

Hi, being that i spend my entire year travelling around NZ and considering this has been one of THE worst winters- in regards to crap weather and rain in a long time. I fully recommend the best time to come here without a doubt would be dec-may that way you will experience NZ in all its kiwi summer time glory.
