backpacking asia

I feel quite stupid on a couple levels.... firstly, i have never used a message board before...and have no real idea how this works. I digress.....

my hubby and I would like to travel Thailand, Cambodia... that area... but we have no realistic idea how much it will cost (leaving from Toronto, Canada) or what we should expect.... I've noticed must people are talking about traveling europe which we would also love to do but as there is two of us...we figured it would be cheaper and just as exciting to travel asia.... but is there something going on there? why is nobody interested? should i be thinking of going elsewhere?

Yes, yes, there are people here who did backpack in S.E. Asia ! I'm one of them -Laos, Vietnam and a tiny bit Bangkok, and loved it. Although my feeling about this part of the world appeared to be mysterious and maybe not backpacker frienldy before I left, it turned out to be backpackers' paradise ! So easy and low cost, people are friendly, and no itinerary difficulties for independant travellers (beside the comfort and lenght of journeys...). You can explore the countryside, discover ancient cities and temples, relax on the beach or by the Mekong, party with other backpackers, spend time with remote tribes, etc. Your the master of your trip, you customize it how you please !
