well, i suddenly have $500 less than what i expected for the trip (long story) - damn!
you know what that means? no five star hotel maxin' relaxin' fireplace-in-my-room action going on...

i'd never let a little money (or lack of) ruin my gig though - so i thought you would all be proud to know that i'll be staying primarily in hostels now as opposed to nice cheap hotels. i salute myself, ahah!

that was just my announcement, here are the questions - for those who can answer:
1. how do overnight trains compare to overnight busses? somehow i'm far more attracted to the train option.
2. can anyone recommend a beautiful beach on koh samui with a nice blend of idyllica and nightlife?
3. i'm interested in visiting the region between nan and khon kaen - any experiences here? favorite towns to mention?

i know most of ya'll are euro-minded, so i'm hoping ladylight or butternut will step up here...
thanks in advance, girls!

Read The Beach if you haven't already Joan. Way better than the movie and it paints an interesting picture of Thailand's islands.

alright - i'm about a third of the way through now... it's okay. i'm such a snob about reading material though. thanks for the recommendation. his writing style is somewhat inventive i guess - not fully into the meat of the story yet, i suppose.

koh samui wasn't my pick anyway - my travel partner had k. samui recommended to her by a co-worker... we'll see what happens. i know i wouldn't mind running into the author while we're in samui - he's pretty fine!

thanks again for the recommendation.
