alright punks: i got my ticket!

$730 r/t from lax to bangkok - since i've never been in the market for tix to bangkok, i'm assuming it's a good deal.

the vacation request has been approved by the boss.... 20 days, not too shabby.

I'm so jealous. Even though I'm taking a 5-week trip in... lessee... 33 days! -- I really want to go to Thailand too! And tickets from Seattle are about $250 more, joan, so I'd say you got a pretty good deal. Lucky girl!!

You'll love it, Joan! My recommendation is to use the river "bus" -- the Chao Phraya River Express -- to get around to see all the cool temples in Bangkok.

If you're into historical sights, you've got to see Ayyudhya (spelled about 100 different ways). Hire a driver dude for the day and have him zip you around to all the sights. Some really otherworldly look architecture...

5 weeks! ooooh - that's sweet..... you know, i think 3 weeks is perfect for me though - anymore and all my furniature would be shredded by my spoiled cat! i start to miss my bed a lot too - it's really nice...

i am stoked, for sure. mike, i hope you mean (another spelling) ayuthayya, i bet you do... it's about an hour out of bkk, right? yeah, i'm planning to visit there... the river express is a good idea too, so far wat arun (temple of the dawn?) looks prettiest to me - the grand palace didn't really impress me through the pics i've seen online.... i don't care much for gilt - anyway - thanks for the kudos!

i'll report back in september!!

Yeah, Ninja-Joanie, Ayyuthaya is the same place. I took the train, but it was s-l-o-w. So, if you find a faster way, by all means, go for it. Wat Arun was cool, but the Grand Palace was neat, too. The palace was probably the only place where I felt overwhelmed with tourists.

Have fun...I'll bet you're pumped! How could you not be, with the GAH-vah-nor that you have?

My first post. I joind this board (travelpunk) because I am also planning to travel to Thailand/Cambodia/Malaysia towards the latter part of this year. Not sure when yet; flight prices will determine that for me.

I just sent my hotel (Asia Bangkok) an email to see if they do transfers. No they dont but their response was:

550-650 - that's like $20AUD for a limo!!!! 30km to the city. This is the place to lead the high life!

And for a cheaper way, you can take the train! Yep, Thailand's train has a stop at the airport and hopefully it will also have a stop near your hotel. If not, you can still take the train downtown and then find another way to your hotel (cab, walk, tuk-tuk or whatever).

i'm planning to take the bus... it's 100 baht = $2.50 ... might as well since i'm gonna stay at the shangri la the next night which is $150.00, haha!

howdy,

just quit my job and am headed to south east asia for about six months. i would like to travel in thailand as well as in indonesia. ive traveled around quite a bit but never alone and never for this long. i arrive in bangkok on April 23rd. were should i go first north, south, any suggestions would be appreciated.
