Hi, I'm in Hanoi and am really struggling to find some decent nightlife. I'm just looking for a lively bar with music and pool table- any advice? Have found le Pub which is very nice but want to try somewhere else too. Also after my Halong bay trip tomorrow I'm heading to Danang on the train on Sunday and staying at My Khe Beach- any advice for that general area??? Thank you, much appreciated xxx

Why don't you ask the hostel staff ? They know for sure where to go. Jeza's advice will work just fine as well !

I was in Hanoi 3 years ago and one of the travellers I was hanging with had a Vietnamese girlfriend. She took us to a place downtown, not very far from the lake. No foreigner but us in that bar, only locals, 12-inch-high table, cushions to sit on, and carpet between tables where we had to leave our shoes, cozy ambiance, vietnamese/thai music, exotic alcohol (I had litchi alcohol !).

No pool table, but a great experience !

Glad to know that there is a general hand motion for all the alcoholics out there!

sorry i dont think theres anything bumpin' in hanoi. its a quiet city at night...with the exception of the constant beeping of the motorbikes.

you should ck out na trang its a very pretty beach city...lots of backpackers. and theres a decdent night life in saigon...around the continental hotel-ish area (i believe thats what its called my memory of vietnam is fuzzy now).....near the night markets. it's a party city compared to hanoi.

Well had 3 great nights in Hoi An- its really pretty and you can feel like youre on holiday for a bit. Im catching the night bus now to Nha Trang for a few days, then the plan is Dalat and Saigon and a trip to the Mekong Delta, before hopefully flying to Chiang Mai. I would say to not spend too long in Hanoi- get your trips booked to Halong and Sapa, have a look round and then leave before you hate it! I wouldnt recommend Danang either, just go straight to Hoi An. Found a few bars in Hanoi by the way but not too rocking!

Didnt go to Hue but reports were very good. I would say def Hoi An- you could spend quite a few days there and it also has a beach and you can hire a taxi or motorbike to take you to Marble Mountains and My Son is worth a quick look. Nha Trang was also a cool place to sit on the beach and drink in nice bars- wow, the sailing club even opens til 4am!! I would also get the train everywhere- even the hard sleepers are great- and I had the top bunk! The buses are not a good option. Hope you have fun!
