Heading off to Bangkok this weekend, and was wondering about the availability of things like mosquito nets, permethrin, etc when I get there. I'm carrying as little as possible and was hoping to pick up stuff there as I need it. I would assume it is readily available there and probably a better selection than here, but don't want to be caught without it when i get out in the country. Thanks.

Are you camping or staying in guesthouses when you get out of the city? Its not uncommon for the guesthouses out in the sticks to provide mosquito netting over the bed. If its important to you, just make that one of your priorities in selecting a place to stay. I have really only been out in the sticks once in Thailand and that was up in the hills outside of Chiangmai. It was in the February timeframe and mosquitos were not bad at all so it wasn't an issue. Time of year and locale have a lot to do with mosquito requirements. I would definately wait until you get there to worry about netting. I would suggest to just bring some DEET spray from home and worry about more substantial protection when you get to where you are going and can assess the need. Good luck.
