After being dicharged from the Marines in the 60's, this guy takes on many different jobs in New York before heading out west to Cali to study a new art (to him) at a local venue.

There, he meets another fellow with the same dreams. After his stint studying on the west coast, he heads back to New York to pursue work in this industry. The second guy follows him to New York later, and even sleeps on his kitchen floor as they both struggle to find work in their art.

While pounding down doors looking for work, they meet two other guys passionately pursuing the same dreams. Together, all four of these guys create a bond and become good friends, encouraging each other, dreaming together, and holding each other accountable to keep after their goals.

Eventually, one of the guys gets a gig and is the first to "break out" and gets noticed. He later hooks up his Marine friend. Throughout the years, these friends recommend each other to their employers, hoping to hook their fellow man up with work from time to time.

As the years go by, and their careers flourish, these four, individually, have been honored with the highest award of achievement and recognition in this art and are considered the absolute best in their industry to this day.

They surrounded themselves with others who were like minded and shared the same vision and dreams.

It is no mistake that these four guys are among the very cream of the crop in their industry.

Can you name this former Marine, his buddy from the west coast, and the two other friends they later met in New York, while struggling to pursue their craft?

I'll lock this topic for just a bit so you can think about how important it is to evaluate your own surroundings and to think about how important it is to surround yourselves with great energy, positive influences, and like minded people -_- .

And, to guess the answer above before someone gives it up right away :naughty: .

travelpunk 11-09-2005 11:21 PM

Great topic TP..................and.....I'm....stumped........ ............................BUT as usual I have a comment. Just as important as or possibly more important than being around like-minded people is being around people holding different views. Part of the problem with the American polical climate today is the fact that people don't debate anymore. People argue and get personal, but it seems to me that the healthy practice of respectful debate is largely a thing of the past. Too many people want to talk to only those that hold their same views, because it's more easily gratifying. While I agree that being around people who share your passions is important, it's also hard to grow as a person without exposing oneself to alternate ideas.
Whoa turbo.....*climbs off soapbox*.....sorry about that.

Knowing The Godfather, I'm going to say some filmmakers or actors.

ted 11-10-2005 11:22 AM

Francis Ford Coppola
Martin Scorsese
Steven Spielberg
George Lucas
hey, Godfather, how do i become recognized up in this joint?

mark-0 11-10-2005 11:54 AM

As it turns out, Andy Warhol was actually these four different former Marines who fused their bodies together.

But seriously, uh.....ok, I'm sticking with the Warhol theory because I have nothing.

TERI 11-10-2005 12:07 PM

I'm guessing singers or possible a group/band

I think your point is easily made right about now, especially with the current "definitly not a debate but rather an excallating flame war about france" thread.

But back to this. Ok well if it's not the Monkees then I am going to go with...

Great post TP. As the saying goes "birds of a feather, flock together." I have always dreamed of travel but when I found Tpunk I felt like my dream should transition into a goal. Does anyone else feel like this?

I'm looking at this list and I still can't figure it out. :blink2:

Elizabeth 11-10-2005 01:24 PM

Oh and I forgot to add. I don't think they're typical "artists" like we would think such as musicians or writers. I was thinking something along the lines of "art of cooking" or "art of medicine."

i agree that we definitely need to hear different opinions, but i think tp is talking more about the synergy that is provided by a group of people who work together to achieve a goal. ideally, however, part of this synergy would be each person's differing ideas and the discussion that would throw out the lesser ideas and implement the most effective ones.

Agreed. My closest friends that share the same vision and passions that I have, believe you me, have completely different view than I do on almost every other subject! From politics to marriage, etc...But, I found that diplomacy is the key.

And you're right about healthy debates being a thing of the past :crybaby: .

Anyways, I'm sure that the people mentioned in the story above, have different views on many subjects too.

Hey Ted, your answer is here "Recognized Members".

Bingo, Lizz! To realize any dream, you have to create long term and short term goals, then....TAKE ACTION! "Pull the trigger," if you will...:hunter:
